Q. What is the truth about karma?
A. To gain the true understanding of karma, we need to realize that all life is karma, and karma is eternal; for action is karma, and every action carries within it an effect. That is karma.
There is a misunderstanding about karma that needs to be dispelled, namely, karma has been identified by many as a law of punishment so that if you commit unrighteous actions you will have to be reborn until you overcome unrighteous action. Likewise, if you perform good actions, then you will reap the rewards of good karma. This equates with the idea of God rewarding and punishing man according to man's deeds.
So long as man believes that he has come into this world to pay off his karmic debts, that belief will continue to keep him experiencing karma. Thus he is constantly struggling to atone for his negative actions. Can you remove feelings of guilt by focusing on that state of consciousness that created the guilt feelings? Or shame or blame?
The higher understanding or truth about karma is that karma in itself neither binds nor liberates. It is simply the law of action. It is the belief that action binds or liberates that creates or determines the consequences.
Let us understand, if we choose to, that the moment we align with the power of love or healing, we raise our consciousness above righteous and unrighteous actions--as such actions are perceived by man--and we no longer can be the recipient of the past. The passionate desire to be transformed by the power of love back into the love that we are infuses all our actions with love. Loving actions do not bind; only selfish actions can do that. Loving actions reveal the activity of Love, or the Beloved. You can choose right now to change any belief regarding karma as paying off a debt by choosing to focus on sharing and growing through unconditional love.
